Maintenance

Don't go back!

Everyday changes for the rest of your life

Everything you can eat is food

but not everything is nutritious.

The body needs nutrients (fuel) on a daily basis to perform its daily function and looks to your diet as the main source and provider. By better understanding your food and the nutritional content, you will better understand your body and the fundamentals

of maintaining it.

Once you complete your detox, your perspective and relationship with food will invariably alter. As your mindset changes based on your new experience with food, your appetite and curiosity for new ‘healthy’ food knowledge and experiences will also increase. This phase is designed to help you make more informed choices around what you put into your body, what it actually needs and the impact on your

overall health long term.

Positive lifestyle changes lead to positive results.

Your health in your hands.

Chia seeds

Chia seeds have become one of the most popular superfoods in the health community. They are easy to digest when prepared properly, and are a very versatile ingredient that adds easily to recipes. They are nutrient dense and full of energy boosting power. Chia is super-high in fiber, providing nearly 11 grams per ounce. One serving can provide the recommended fiber intake for the day.

Being high in dietary fiber, chia helps promote bowel regularity and healthy stool. The rich fiber content in chia seeds also helps people feel more full quicker because it absorbs a considerable amount of water and immediately expands in the stomach when eaten.

Chia seeds’ ability to reverse inflammation, regulate cholesterol and lower blood pressure make it extremely beneficial to consume for heart health.By adding a serving of chia seeds a day you can help boost your metabolism and burn belly fat as well.

Studies show that the addition of chia seeds to your diet also reduces visceral adipose tissue, a “belly fat” tissue that effects the metabolism of the body and is a component of obesity.

Kale

Try our Super Green Spritzer and Tropical Green Spritzer which contain kale. The fiber (5 grams in one cup) and sulfur in kale aid with digestion and liver health. The Vitamin C it contains hydrates your body and increases your metabolism, leading to weight loss and healthy blood sugar levels. The fiber in kale also lowers cholesterol.

Kale’s impressive concentration of nutrients strengthens the immune system and fights viruses and bacteria. Kale has more iron than beef, making it a great source of this valuable mineral for vegans and vegetarians. It helps more oxygen get to your blood and greatly helps those who are anemic.

The healthy balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids keep your body strong, healthy and beautiful from the inside out. Kale’s concentration of major nutrients gives your skin’s health and appearance a boost.

The omega-3 fatty acids in kale help fight and alleviate arthritis, autoimmune disorders and asthma. The vitamin C content helps relieve stiff joints. Kale, like other dark green veggies, may be helpful in preventing various cancers such as colon, prostate and ovarian. Its abundant vitamin K content is important for bone health, forestalling the effects of osteoporosis. And the folic acid and B6 provide cardiovascular support and prevent heart disease.

Moringa

Moringa is one of the most powerful health-enhancing plants. While many things found in nature can have one or two health benefits, Moringa has many.  Moringa leaves are best known as an excellent source of nutrition and natural energy boosters. This energy boost is not based on sugar, and so it is sustained.

Moringa is also soothing. It helps lower blood pressure and is a sleep aid. Its detoxifying effect may come from Moringa's ability to purify water. Moringa acts as a coagulant attaching itself to harmful material and bacteria. Juice from the leaves is believed to have a stabilizing effect on blood pressure and is used to treat anxiety. It is believed to control glucose levels in cases of diabetes.

Moringa is considered to have the highest protein ratio of any plant so far identified, with the protein in Moringa being comparable in quality to that of soy.  Moringa is also able to aid in providing an individual with healthy, radiant skin due being rich in anti-oxidants and skin-loving vitamins A, E, riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3) as well as zinc, promoting healthy, radiant skin.

Moringa also contains almost 25% protein including all nine essential amino acids, which help support the building blocks of proteins required for optimum growth, repair and maintenance of healthy skin cells. Reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Moringa is especially high in vitamin A (325% RDA per 100g) and iron (468% RDA per 100g) which support the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Vitamin A is needed for normal production of red blood cells and iron contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that transports oxygen around the body. If you don’t have enough iron, your body has to work harder to get the energy it needs, which can leave you feeling tired. The high iron content also makes moringa ideal for vegans, vegetarians, fighting fatigue and iron-deficiencies.

WATER

For those seeking to shed a few pounds drinking an increased amount of water will aid during this process as it naturally reduces your appetite. A lot of people confuse feeling thirsty with feeling hungry so they eat when their body wants them to drink something. When you're dehydrated, fat cells become harder to break down and so anyone actually trying to diet will find it a lot harder if they don't drink very much. Water also plays an important role in supporting the heart. As the hardest working muscle of all it needs a lot of water to keep it going at full speed. When you get dehydrated your blood gets thicker so the heart has to work even harder. Foods high in water content include: Lettuce-96% Cucumber-94% Tomatoes-93% Broccoli-92% Carrots-90% Watermelon-90% Grapefruit-88%

Lemon

Lemon is a powerful antioxidant with a rich amount of vitamin C. Lemons help fight the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer. Lemon is an excellent iron absorbing source. Pairing foods that are high in vitamin C with foods that are iron-rich will maximize the body's ability to absorb iron. Foods that are high in vitamin C and other antioxidants can help the immune system and battle germs that cause a cold or flu.

Olive oil

Olive oil is rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin E, long thought to minimize cancer risk. Among plant oils, olive oil is the highest in monounsaturated fat, which doesn’t oxidize in the body, and it’s low in polyunsaturated fat, the kind that does oxidize.

Recent studies indicate that regular consumption of olive oil can help decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

It has been demonstrated that a diet that is rich in olive oil, low in saturated fats, moderately rich in carbohydrates and soluble fiber from fruit, vegetables, pulses and grains is the most effective approach for diabetics. It helps lower “bad” low-density lipoproteins while improving blood sugar control and enhances insulin sensitivity.

A high consumption of olive oil appears to improve bone mineralization and calcification. It helps calcium absorption and so plays an important role in aiding sufferers and in preventing the onset of Osteoporosis.

The health and weight management benefits of sweet potato far exceed the nutritional value found in ordinary white and yellow fleshed potatoes. Sweet potatoes contain almost twice as much fiber as other types of potatoes. Contributing close to 7 grams of fiber per serving, they make an excellent starchy addition to any meal. The high fiber content gives them a "slow burning" quality.

They contain a large amount of vitamin B6. This vitamin is crucial in breaking down a substance called homocysteine, which contributes to hardening of the arteries and blood vessels. Vitamin B6 helps keep the walls of these important blood passageways flexible and healthy which allows blood to flow freely. In addition, sweet potatoes contain high amounts of potassium which assists in lowering blood pressure by ridding the body of excess sodium and regulating fluid balance. It is also an important electrolyte that helps regulate the natural rhythm of the heart, and maintains normal function of the brain and central nervous system.

The vitamin A content is an important antioxidant. One medium sweet potato provides your body with the complete recommended daily allowance of vitamin A. Vitamin A is useful in the prevention of several different types of cancer as it is one of the most potent antioxidants out there. It is also a great source of manganese Manganese is a little-discussed trace mineral that has some great health benefits. It is a pivotal component in the metabolism of carbohydrates which helps support healthy blood sugar levels.

This can help stabilize the appetite for hours as opposed to the temporary satisfaction that comes with most other carbohydrates. It also is a cofactor in enzymes that play an important role in the generation of energy as well as the efficient utilization of antioxidants. As if being one of the top vegetable sources of beta-carotene weren't enough, sweet potatoes are also rich in vitamins C and E. These are potent antioxidant vitamins that play an important role in disease prevention and longevity.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a product of the prickly but succulent aloe vera plant, which has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years due to its healing, rejuvenating and soothing properties. It aids our bodies in maintaining a healthy balance between acidity and alkalinity which is influenced by the foods we eat. It also has the beneficial effect of making our body more alkaline which reduces bad effects of the acidic stuff we eat. The optimum structure of foods should be 80% alkaline and 20 % acidic.

The large quantity of benefits of this plant make losing pounds a secondary effect. Through the removal of toxins, this enhances our immune system allowing us to maintain a healthy digestion system. All of these factors combined enable us to remain healthy and shed body mass.  An additional health benefit of consuming aloe vera is that the chances of an individual experiencing diarrhea and constipation are reduced through the that our digestive system receives.

Beetroot

What’s more, just three baby beetroot equal one of your recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Beetroot also reduces blood pressure and the risk of heart attacks and strokes. This is because the high content of nitrates in beetroot produce a gas called nitric oxide in the blood which widens blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. A daily dose of 250ml of beetroot juice or 1 to 2 cooked beetroot (approx. 100g) can help dramatically reduce blood pressure and its associated risks. #beetroot #health

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are more than just a colorful addition to a dish.  Measuring at 20 calories per 100g they certainly fall under the low calorie bracket. They contain plenty of vitamin C which boosts your immune system. Regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin C, like green peppers which contain more than twice the vitamin C of an orange, helps protect against scurvy while also boosting the immune system.

Bell peppers also lowers inflammation in the arteries that leads to heart disease, diabetes, and cholesterol build up, also assisting in the removal of harmful free radicals from the body. Red bell peppers contain several phytochemicals and carotenoids, particularly beta-carotene which aids the body in antioxidant removal. The capsaicin in bell peppers has multiple health benefits. Studies show that it reduces ‘bad’ cholesterol, controls diabetes, brings relief from pain and eases inflammation.

The sulfur content in bell peppers makes them play a protective role in certain types of cancers. It is also a good source of Vitamin E, which is known to play a key role in keeping skin and hair looking youthful.  All colors of bell pepper are high sources of potassium. This mineral helps keep your fluids and minerals balanced in your body, enhancing muscle function and regulating blood pressure.

Spirulina

Spirulina has long been revered for its ability to strengthen the immune system. Because it actively promotes cell regeneration, it helps wounds heal quicker, and makes recovery from illnesses occur faster. Spirulina fortifies one's immune system, leaving the person less likely to experience colds, flu's and other contractible illnesses.

It is very rich in vitamin A, and this vitamin is exceptionally important for healthy eyes. Spirulina eases the passage of waste through the digestive system, thereby reducing stress on the entire system. It also promotes healthy bacteria in the digestive system, and helps to improve the absorption of dietary nutrients.

Spirulina has a very high concentration of chlorophyll, one of nature's most powerful detoxifying agents. It has been shown to be effective at helping remove toxins from the blood, and it binds to heavy metals and radioactive isotopes, making it very beneficial for those undergoing radioactive therapy.
